I’ve been working on reducing the use of plastic in our bathroom. This has been tricky with our two young boys. But we have managed to change over our toothbrushes to bamboo ones (you can read about it here).
I’m a big fan of buying in bulk, I’m the one you see at the supermarket reaching for the 10 kilo sack of rice, or the 48 rolls of toilet paper in one pack (no need for those embarrassed looks to flash my way, there’s no emergency at home in the bathroom department, I just love buying in bulk). Purchasing this way is generally cheaper, and there is the added benefit of reducing the amount of packaging for the items we need, so it’s a win win.
So when we came to the end of my last supply of shampoo and conditioner (both of which were in massive plastic containers with plastic pumps), I decided it was time to see what other options are out there.
Enter – Shampoo and Conditioner Bars
Such a simple concept. Think a bar of soap, except it’s for your hair. Yep… That simple… Seriously, why isn’t this a thing in our supermarket?! I’m just about to the end of my first bars, which I purchased from LUSH. I LOVE the shampoo bar. It’s a simple lather in your hands, then lathered hands in your hair, and rinse. It has a delicious fruity scent too that I’m a bit crazy about.
I bought a conditioner bar as well, although I’m not convinced, this is the right direction for my hair. The shampoo really gets my hair squeaky clean, and given I have super fine hair, it becomes a bit of a hot knotty mess if I don’t get some moisture via conditioner back into it. The conditioning bar I’ve used thus far isn’t quite cutting it, and I’ve found I’ve had to add Argan oil to my hair post wash, pre blow dry just to brush out any tangles.
Regardless, I’m a convert, both bars came with no packaging and the process is just as simple as using shampoo from the traditional plastic containers. So so easy.
